Alfa Laval and AquaGreen strengthen collaboration at WEFTEC 2026 to advance sustainable biosolids management
Alfa Laval and AquaGreen will exhibit together at WEFTEC 2026, North America's largest annual water quality event, taking place September 28-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Visitors can meet experts from both companies at Alfa Laval's booth #1829 to explore technologies that support efficient sludge handling, biosolids management, drying and pyrolysis, resource recovery and wastewater treatment.
The joint presence at WEFTEC highlights the growing collaboration between Alfa Laval and AquaGreen, combining complementary expertise to help municipalities and industries meet evolving wastewater challenges. Together, the companies offer solutions that improve operational efficiency, reduce environmental impact and support the transition toward more circular water and resource management.

Helping utilities move from waste management to resource recovery
WEFTEC brings together more than 20,000 water professionals from over 100 countries and more than 1,000 exhibiting companies, making it a key meeting place for the global water community.
At booth #1829, Alfa Laval’s team will address key challenges across municipal and industrial water and wastewater applications. Discussions will focus on advanced wastewater transformation, efficient corporate water stewardship and proven technologies for sludge thickening and dewatering from the Alfa Laval’s Ashbrook Simon-Hartley portfolio, like the Sequencing Batch Reactor or the Iso-Disc cloth media filter.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to engage directly with AquaGreen and learn about the company’s Integrated Drying & Pyrolysis (IDP) system for the treatment of dewatered biosolids, combining energy-efficient drying and high-temperature pyrolysis. Together, Alfa Laval and AquaGreen will demonstrate how innovative treatment technologies can unlock value from wastewater residuals through resource recovery pathways, including biochar production and solutions for addressing environmental contaminants.

High-temperature pyrolysis doesn’t just reduce the volume of biosolids - it addresses contaminants such as PFAS while recovering energy, retaining valuable phosphorus and locking carbon into biochar. About AquaGreen
AquaGreen is a Danish cleantech engineering company backed by investors including Nordic Alpha Partners (NAP). Its patented HECLA® technology, developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), is designed to address three major environmental challenges.
First, AquaGreen's pyrolysis treatment supports environmental protection. It uses high-temperature pyrolysis to eliminate or substantially reduce harmful organic contaminants, including PFAS, pharmaceuticals, pesticides and microplastics, to under detection level, which prevents groundwater pollution, avoiding environmental harm and public health risks. Additionally, the produced biochar can be used for wastewater filtration and soil remediation, eliminating even more pollutants.
Secondly, the technology is engineered to combat the climate crisis. It prevents waste from releasing greenhouse gases, converts part of the biogenic carbon in biosolids into a stable form in biochar, enabling long-term carbon storage. Surplus energy generated during the process can be recovered and used for local or district heating.
And thirdly, AquaGreen plays an important role in resource preservation, recycling scarce nutrients such as phosphorus. This reduces the reliance on finite resources and provides a versatile and valuable soil improver and fertiliser.
