The welded spiral heat exchanger is designed for sludge, waste, digestate and anaerobic digestion applications, offering unique capabilities within sludge and waste treatment. The spirals can accommodate most duties in waste water and sludge management - offering reliable operation and minimal maintenance at your waste treatment plant.

Experience how the spiral heat exchanger help you obtain reliable uptime and energy savings at your waste water treatment plant

  • Reliable performance and uptime overriding the usual cleaning frequency
  • Easy access to entire heat transfer area
  • Recovers maximum energy from your heating/cooling source, optimizing your energy consumption thanks to high heat transfer efficiency
  • Compact, space saving design, reduces installation costs
Weldedspiral

Our spiral heat exchangers offer several advantages for efficient and reliable operation. The cleaning-in-place or back flushing minimizes maintenance downtime, ensuring smooth performance. Unobstructed channels of up to 25 mm can manage large particles and long fibres in the waste without clogging and maintain constant flow velocities, enhancing efficiency. Moreover, our spiral heat exchangers have a low lifetime cost due to their high thermal efficiency, compact design, and minimal maintenance requirements. These combined benefits make them an excellent choice for wastewater applications. The self cleaning effect ensure long uptime and minimal maintenance. When necessary, you can open the door and access the whole surface area for mechanical cleaning.

How it works

The sludge spirals (ALSHE STW/STS) consist of a spiral wound from two sheets of metal strips that form two concentric spiral flow passages. The media flows counter currently in the two channels. The flow is from the centre to the periphery and vice versa. The sludge channels are open on one side and closed on the other and the water channel is closed on both sides. Each channel has one connection in the centre and one on the periphery.

Product features
  • The self cleaning effect enabled by large unobstructed channels provide smooth flow through the unit with constant velocity
  • Counter current flow gives the most efficient heat transfer and makes the unit compact, allowing optimal energy recovery

ALSHE STS

Offer unique opportunities to recover heat from already heated sludge, minimizing the energy consumption of your waste water treatment plant.

ALSHE STW

Single door and there is no need to remove the process piping, gives easy access to the sludge channel when required for mechanical cleaning

Improving sustainability with Alfa Laval’s spiral heat exchangers

  • Minimal fouling, or clogging, in duties involving very dirty, highly viscous or particulate media, ensures uptime
  • Easy-to-open design makes cleaning quick and simple, ensuring low maintenance costs
  • Compact footprint, 1/3 compared to other technology resulting in reduced pipework and steel structures means lower installation costs
  • Increased energy savings and reduced emissions thanks to thermal efficiencies 2-3 times higher than comparable shell-and tube exchangers
