How do we bend the curve?
On 5 November 2025, Alfa Laval brought together over 50 process engineers, professors, CEOs and experts in renewable hydrogen for a day dedicated to shaping a more sustainable energy future through strategic action and collaboration. The theme of the event was “Bend the curve” – in other words, how do we take action to secure a positive outcome?
The event was a collaboration with Women in Green Hydrogen – though in fact a third of the attendees were men. The hydrogen market has experienced both hype and a period of consolidation. While electrification is transforming many aspects of our lives, decarbonization will require a clean molecule like hydrogen. Hydrogen's versatility enables it to serve as power generation, storage, fuel, or feedstock, making it a cornerstone for a cleaner energy landscape.
While progress has been slower than anticipated due to various challenges, the outlook remains optimistic. The number of projects has grown, pipelines have matured, and more projects than ever have reached Final Investment Decision (FID).

A pathway for success
The goal of the day was to highlight the current market situation, foster consensus on challenges, and chart a common pathway for the successful implementation of clean molecules in tomorrow's energy mix. The discussions were lively, insightful and solution-oriented.
One highlight was a panel discussion featuring experts from ThyssenKrupp Nucera, HydrogenPro and Topsoe. Panelists shared their perspectives on the evolving needs and opportunities, emphasizing innovation, collaboration and adaptability as keys to success.
In a series of workshops and discussions the participants identified actionable solutions and shared best practices. The event was more than just a meeting—it was a catalyst for action. Bringing together diverse experts and fostering open dialogue helps pave the way for a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
It was a great honour being invited by Alfa-Laval and WiGH to join this exceptional event. The event was impressively well-prepared, brought together an inspiring group of predominantly female participants, and covered a wide range of topics from Hydrogen Europe’s Clean Hydrogen Monitor 2025 to inspiring master thesis results. Across all sessions and workshops, a clear and consistent message emerged: the hydrogen ecosystem can only realize its full potential through enhanced collaboration among all stakeholders and across the entire value chain.

The challenges today are the same as they were 10 years ago – getting real-cost figures on the table and working to get the cost down. The world is already consuming around 100 million tonnes of hydrogen to make vital products. This can be turned into using green hydrogen instead. We will depend on oil-based products for many decades, but don’t forget that oil refineries need vast amount of hydrogen to upgrade their oil products. Let’s make it a bit greener until the green era takes over for good. I think all the participants went home wiser than when they arrived.
