Recommissioning for PureBallast

If your Alfa Laval PureBallast system has been inactive for 12 months or more, it may no longer perform as expected. In the worst case, it may have developed faults that can lead to damage at start-up. Recommissioning is recommended to prevent costly incidents and ensure performance according to type approval.

What we do

Recommissioning begins with a status check of your PureBallast system. This determines the scope and timing of the recommissioning work, so that we can prepare in advance and have any necessary parts on hand. Based on the results of the status check, we perform any needed corrections, adjustments, updates or optimizing software upgrades. Afterwards, even if no faults were found, we perform a full system test to verify your system’s performance. In addition, we provide operator training while on board to ensure that your crew is ready to use the system.

Scope of service

Status check

A check of your PureBallast system is done well ahead of the main work to allow preparation time and the acquisition of any necessary parts. The check includes:

  • Visual inspections
  • Alarm evaluation
  • Ballasting cycle evaluation
  • Deballasting cycle evaluation

The results of the status check determine the scope and timing of the main recommissioning work.

Recommissioning work

  • Based on the results of the status check, we perform the following as needed:
  • Function tests and adjustments of alarms, pneumatics, valves, filter and control
  • Function tests and adjustments of the ballasting cycle and deballasting cycle
  • Software upgrades
  • Cleaning-In-Place (CIP)

System test

Following the recommissioning work, we perform a full system test to verify the performance of your PureBallast system. This includes operational testing of:

  • Ballasting cycle
  • Deballasting cycle
  • Remote interface, if applicable

The comprehensive system test is documented in a signed Recommissioning Test Form.

Operator training
