Rotary brush strainers

The Alfa Laval Rotary brush strainers are self-cleaning inline filters that remove coarse particles from process fluids. They protect downstream equipment, such as pumps, separators, and heat exchangers, from potential damage due to clogging and abrasive wear. These rotary brush strainers safeguard product quality, increase productivity, and reduce maintenance costs.

Rotary brush strainers provide effective, continuous filtration of oversize solids from process fluids

  • Promote process continuity and high throughput and minimize costly downtime
  • Ensure consistently high product quality through thorough filtration of process fluids using proven technology
  • Increase yield and minimizes product losses
  • Prolong equipment service life due to reliable wear protection and longer time between maintenance intervals
  • Easy to service and open for inspection and brush adjustment

Safeguard uptime and ensure smooth, efficient process operation with the Alfa Laval Rotary brush strainers. These robust, self-cleaning inline brush strainers capture solids suspended in process fluids that may cause wear or clogging in downstream equipment and components, including pumps, separators, heat exchangers, and valves.

The rotary strainers are available either as a stand-alone unit, the Alfa Laval W-SIL strainer, or as the Alfa Laval W-SIL strainer module, a complete frame-mounted unit, ready for use on the factory floor. Flow rates reach up to 60,000 l/h (265 gpm). The standard filter mesh size ranges from 0.6–1 mm (0.02–0.04 in). Custom perforations and slotted sizes are available on request.

Alfa Laval Rotary brush strainers are suitable for applications within the agriculture processing, dairy, food, beverage and other industries where continuous operation and solids removal is critical for equipment uptime.

Enhanced process continuity

The Alfa Laval Rotary brush strainers boost process uptime. The stainless steel brushes or optional teflon scrapers dislodge solids or oversized particles trapped in the perforated screen without stopping operation. These solids fall into a sediment chamber at the strainer’s bottom for discharge.

Highly flexible, versatile

The rotary brush strainers are available either as a stand-alone unit, the Alfa Laval W-SIL strainer, or as a frame-mounted unit, the Alfa Laval W-SIL strainer module, complete with an electrical cabinet and solids discharge valve. Optional filter mesh sizes and configurations ensure customization to suit various applications. In addition, custom perforations and slotted sizes are available upon request.

Easy to control, inspect and maintain

Connections for instrumentation are positioned on top of the rotary brush strainers. Easy to open, the inline rotary strainers provide fast access to the strainer interior for inspection and maintenance. Pipe connections for strainer flushing are available on the bottom cone.

How do rotary brush strainers work?

The Alfa Laval Rotary brush strainers are self-cleaning inline filters housed in stainless steel casings. The casing surrounds a perforated filter basket through which the process fluid passes. The fluid enters the unit through the inlet. The filter basket captures coarse particles suspended in the liquid larger than the filter mesh size.

Rotating brushes or optional scrapers, mounted on a central shaft and driven by a gear motor, regularly dislodge trapped solids caught in the wire mesh, assuring thorough cleaning. The solids accumulate in the conical sediment chamber at the strainer bottom. Discharge can be set at any desired interval, emptying the sediment chamber through the bottom valve.
