OLMI Primary Quench Exchanger Double-pipe Type

Alfa Laval Olmi double-pipe primary quench exchangers (PQE) cool hot gaseous effluent from hydrocarbons cracking furnaces while generating steam. These highly efficient linear transfer line exchangers minimize the difference in thermal expansion between the inner and outer tubes to prevent cracking and fatigue. No thermal sleeve, short residence time of hot gas in the distributor and advanced welding also boosts ethylene yield.

How it works

Hot cracked gas from the furnace enters the quench exchanger, where it is rapidly cooled to stop secondary reactions and limit the formation of unwanted by-products. This immediate cooling is critical to preserving product quality and maximizing process efficiency. 

The optimized design ensures efficient heat transfer while minimizing fouling, allowing for stable and reliable operation even under demanding conditions. By reducing the time the gas remains at high temperatures, the system helps improve yield while supporting consistent long-term performance. 

In addition, the design supports effective removal of deposits and simplifies maintenance, helping operators maintain performance over time with reduced operational effort.
