Desmet and Alfa Laval join forces to bring more value to oils, fats and biofuel producers
Alfa Laval is initiating the process of fully integrating Desmet, bringing the two organizations and capabilities closer together as one strong global partner in process engineering solutions for the oils, fats and biofuel industries.
Alfa Laval acquired Desmet in 2022, including the operational units and brands of RoseDowns and Stolz, and Desmet has since operated as a separate entity. By joining forces, Desmet and Alfa Laval will create a unique position across the technology value chain – from oilseed to end product – supporting the oils, fats and biofuel industries with enhanced expertise and resources by combining the strengths of both organizations. The integration is expected to be completed by July 2027.
“By bringing our capabilities together, we can offer customers more integrated solutions, accelerate innovation and create even more value through the process. At the same time, we are preserving the specialist know-how and close customer relationships that Desmet is known for in the market today,” says Sammy Hulpiau, President of the Food & Pharma Division.
Desmet’s upstream extraction and processing expertise will be combined with Alfa Laval’s technologies in separation, heat transfer and downstream processing. Together, these complementary capabilities create a broader and more-integrated offering in engineered solutions from one partner, helping simplify project execution and reduce complexity in highly competitive industries. The joint global sales, service and execution network will be extended with local teams in more than 150 countries.
For customers, this means:
- Trusted partner with deeper process knowledge
Combining specialist expertise from both organizations, built on more than 34,000 projects delivered across the process industries
- Accelerated innovation
Bringing together four innovation centres, 164 patents and complementary technology expertise to develop new solutions faster.
- Broader technology portfolios and end-to-end process coverage
A wider offering covering the processes from raw material extraction to final product processing.
- Service at the core of our offering
Service is an integral part of our combined offering, supported by specialist expertise, dedicated service centres and a global service network to help customers maintain plant performance.
- More than two centuries of engineering heritage
Desmet brings more than 80 years of expertise in oils, fats and related process technologies. Alfa Laval adds more than 140 years of engineering experience, together with a global sales, service and supply network
- Elevated plant reliability and efficient performance e
Powered by stronger teams with deeper product expertise, working seamlessly together and supported by a streamlined project execution model.
The integration will happen in phases to ensure continuity for customers, partners and ongoing projects. This phased approach supports the continuation of ongoing proposal work, projects and partnerships.
Desmet will be integrated into Business Unit Process Engineering Solutions, part of Alfa Laval’s Food & Pharma Division. The Business Unit brings together the former Business Unit Food Systems and Business Unit Desmet and focuses on key industries including oilseeds, oils and fats, brewery, beverages and proteins.
