Alfa Laval welcomes significant step in Sweden’s new nuclear program

Alfa Laval, together with Vattenfall, and as a member of Industrikraft, is pleased to announce a significant step in Sweden’s energy transition as Videberg Kraft selects a supplier for the development of new nuclear power at Ringhals on the Värö Peninsula.

Nuclear power is a crucial component in supporting the transformation of Swedish industry and transport, strengthening the nation’s long-term competitiveness and achieving Sweden’s climate targets. With the full support of its owners, Vattenfall and Industrikraft, Videberg Kraft has worked purposefully to enable this new nuclear initiative.

The selection process has focused on identifying a supplier with the capability to deliver a successful project—on time and within budget. The chosen supplier, Rolls-Royce SMR, has demonstrated both strong commercial professionalism and a genuine commitment to the project’s objectives and is a provider of modular reactors based on technology that is well known in the Swedish nuclear community.

“Rolls-Royce SMR offers an efficient and industrialized concept that reduces the risk of delays. Videberg Kraft, together with Rolls-Royce SMR, is now paving the way for a new nuclear power on the Värö Peninsula – something that would not have been possible without a historically unique collaboration between Swedish industry and the energy sector,” says Tom Erixon, President and CEO of Alfa Laval, and board member of Industrikraft and Videberg Kraft.

This announcement paves the way for a new era in Swedish nuclear energy and marks the beginning of one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country’s history, as well as the first nuclear project in Sweden in over 40 years.

Industrikraft, which consists of ABB, Alfa Laval, Boliden, Hitachi Energy, Höganäs, Saab, Stora Enso, SSAB and the Volvo Group, looks forward to developing a robust and enduring partnership that will create value for decades to come.

Videberg Kraft is a project company established to enable new nuclear power in Sweden as part of a stable, fossil‑free and long‑term energy system. Its mission is to develop new baseload capacity at Ringhals on the Värö Peninsula, corresponding to around 1,500 MW of electricity production. With the continued support of its owners, Videberg Kraft will now work towards commissioning the first reactor during the mid-2030s.
