Alfa Laval expands service capacity in Japan at Shonan Service Centre

Alfa Laval marked a significant milestone in its commitment to customer service with the upgrade of the Service Centre in Shonan, Japan. The inauguration, held on 20 May 2026, welcomed customers from the energy, food and pharmaceutical, and marine industries, alongside representatives from the Samukawa local government and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce.

The upgraded facility strengthens Alfa Laval’s ability to support customers with faster, more efficient service solutions while reinforcing its long-term commitment to the Japanese market.

Enhancing service capabilities to support customer performance

The modernization of the Shonan Service Centre increases reconditioning capacity by 30 percent, enabling shorter turnaround times and greater responsiveness to customer needs across Japan.

The upgrade also includes a complete optimization of the facility layout and process flow, improving operational efficiency and service quality. In addition, the centre has introduced fluorescent penetrant testing technology, delivering more accurate defect detection, simplified cleaning processes and reduced lead times.

Investing in advanced technologies and operational excellence

The upgrade includes several initiatives designed to reduce resource consumption and improve operational efficiency. The service centre has replaced a conventional gas boiler with an electric heating system and now operates on renewable electricity. Solar panels installed at the facility last year generate onsite energy and reduced reliance on conventional energy sources.

A new water treatment system has also been introduced, improving water management while creating opportunities for future enhancements. Together, these investments support safer operations, improved service quality and reduce the environmental footprint.

Facility upgrades reduce energy use and resource consumption

“The upgrade of the Shonan Service Centre is an important milestone in strengthening our service capabilities in Japan,” said Sara Widestadh, Head of Service and Vice President, Business Unit Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers. “With this investment, we are able to deliver faster, customer-oriented and high-quality service. We are committed to being our customers’ trusted service partner, helping them improve energy efficiency and achieve sustainable performance.”

Delivering greater value across the equipment lifecycle

The upgraded Shonan Service Centre reflects Alfa Laval’s ongoing investment in service excellence, combining advanced technology, increased capacity and more efficient operations to create greater value for customers.

By strengthening its service infrastructure in Japan, Alfa Laval is enhancing its ability to support customers throughout the lifecycle of their equipment, delivering faster service, improved reliability and a seamless customer experience.

The investment reinforces our commitment to helping customers optimize performance, improve energy efficiency, and maximize the value of their equipment through world-class service.
