Alfa Laval and 10,000+ companies unite under Science-Based Targets

On January 22, 2026, the Science Based Targets initiative surpassed 10,000 companies with validated science-based targets. This milestone reflects how far climate-aligned business has come—and sends a strong signal to markets, policymakers, and stakeholders that science-based action is advancing.

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies and financial institutions worldwide to play their part in combating the climate crisis. It was initially founded as a collaboration between CDP, United Nations Global Compact, We Mean Business Coalition, World Resources Institute (WRI), and World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

Since 2023, Alfa Laval is one of the companies worldwide leading the net zero transformation by setting emissions reduction targets grounded in climate science. The SBTi initiative promotes best practice in science-based target setting and they follow-up on Alfa Laval’s progress towards its targets on a yearly basis.

In 2024, Alfa Laval announced its plans to effectively reach net zero in its own operations (scope 1 & 2) by 2027, three years ahead of the SBTi validated target year 2030. For value chains (scope 3) the target is set to a 50% reduction of greenhouse  gas (GHG) emissions by 2030. These are important milestones to reach net zero across all scopes by 2050 - in line with the UN Paris Agreement. 2030 and 2050 GHG emissions reduction targets are verified by the SBTi (2023). Alfa Laval can thereby ensure its climate action is in line with the latest science.
