Methanol is no longer a future fuel – it’s a present-day reality. Leveraging our deep experience in co-development and testing with engine makers, plus the largest orderbook in shipbuilding (around 200 vessels, with 50 in operation), Alfa Laval has developed and deployed the proven methanol-capable fuel supply system FCM Methanol, followed by methanol-fired boilers and integrated heat recovery solutions. These technologies are helping shipowners to reduce emissions effectively across both newbuilds and retrofits, with robust, practical solutions that satisfy operational and regulatory demands.

During an inspection of the heat exchangers at Dow’s Terneuzen site, technicians from Alfa Laval and Dow discovered that changes in operating conditions were causing excessive fouling in several units. Redesigning them to match the new process parameters effectively resolved the fouling issue and eliminated the need for maintenance stops between scheduled turnarounds.
