Re-Made to matter

Re-Made to matter

A pioneering collaboration for sustainable recycling

Working together to solve our challenges

When it comes to our climate challenge, there are no quick or one-size-fits-all-solutions – especially not in the industrial sector. We all need to take care of our natural resources. This includes the physical materials we use, but also optimizing our use of energy through improved efficiency. Every kW we can save will matter.

Everything that can be done in a better way, must be done. From big structural changes and great innovations, to small improvements and minor adjustments, every step in the right direction is an important piece of the puzzle. It’s about working together to accelerate the transition towards a carbon neutral and circular future. And that’s exactly what the partnership between Stena Recycling and Alfa Laval is all about. We call it Re-Made to matter.

Innovative sustainability from two industry leaders

Re-Made to matter represents a groundbreaking new model for taking care of plate heat exchangers at the end of their lifecycle. With innovation from two leaders in their respective fields, this exchange programme will bring a more circular approach to heating and cooling duties. By improving energy efficiency in these applications, it is also a major step to helping our industry tackle climate change and become carbon neutral.

A perfect match

Accelerating the transition towards a carbon neutral and circular future is not about stopping the things we are doing. It’s about starting to do things in the best possible way. For example, estimates suggest that energy efficiency alone will enable us to cut around 40% of global carbon emissions. Recycling also saves large amounts of energy and, at the same time, means a reduced climate impact compared to producing raw materials from virgin natural sources.

That’s why this partnership between Stena Recycling and Alfa Laval is a perfect match. Stena Recycling helps industries to achieve a circular material flow, recycling industrial waste and end-of-life products, as well as giving material new life in the making of fresh products.

Alfa Laval develops advanced, thermally efficient plate heat exchanger technologies, which enable energy improvements in everything from heavy and light industry to data centers and residential heating and cooling. Alfa Laval’s heat exchangers save around 50GW of power every year – the same amount needed for heating of 10 million Nordic homes. That corresponds to a 25-million-tonne reduction in global carbon emissions.

By bringing our competencies together, we are reducing the use of our planet’s limited resources, saving a lot of energy, and making a difference for the climate.
A classic win-win-win situation.

Media announcement: a collaboration to lead the way forward

In addition to creating significant savings for our customers, this exchange programme represents a groundbreaking new approach to sustainability in our industry.

“This is an important step towards a more circular and sustainable approach when sourcing material… [for] our products,” says Susanne Pahlén Åklundh, President of the Energy Division.

“The collaboration with Alfa Laval shows once again what effective circular solutions we can create when we work together,” agrees Fredrik Pettersson, Managing Director of Stena Recycling Sweden.
