Chillventa 2024:Combined expertise for sustainable cities and industries
Combined expertise for sustainable cities and industries
Sustainable cities and industries are critical to achieving our climate targets.
Cities currently account for two-thirds of global energy consumption and 70% of CO2 emissions, despite covering only 3% of the earth's land area.
Heating, cooling and refrigeration are major energy consumers in our cities, but also cover important basic needs. This makes energy efficiency and the move away from fossil fuels the order of the day. Alfa Laval, with more than 100 years of heat transfer experience, is a key player in sustainable building and cooling technology.
Game changing heat pumps: Getting more out of less
Our energy-efficient plate heat exchangers help us to drastically reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions in the cities of tomorrow, in both private households and commercial applications.
Industrial heat pumps can recover heat from production processes, as well as from data centres and natural sources such as sea, river, ground or wastewater. This turns waste heat into a valuable resource that we can utilize for other heating and cooling processes in the cities. Furthermore, this is increasingly done with natural refrigerants such as ammonia and hydrocarbons.
Join us at Chillventa to gain practical insights into the world of resource conservation.
Chillventa 2024: Implementing sustainability on a large scale
Chillventa 2024, taking place from 8 to 10 October in Nuremberg, will bring together international experts and players in the field of refrigeration technology, including Alfa Laval. Please visit our stand, number 6-138, to learn more about our heat transfer innovations for heat pumps and refrigeration systems.
- Our trade fair innovation for industrial heat pump systems: The new series of semi-welded plate heat exchangers from Alfa Laval offer manufacturers unprecedented options. The compact, easy-to-maintain heat exchangers are highly efficient and can be customized for larger capacity than ever. They have the flexibility to meet the specific water quality, pressure, and temperature requirements of each application. Proven gaskets are available for every application.
- New environmental pioneer: The new SE series from Alfa Laval offers safe and efficient heat exchangers for heat pump and air conditioning systems that meet the highest safety standards for the use of highly flammable natural refrigerants. With their robust design, the units can handle standard pressures and deliver maximum performance with a lower refrigerant charge in both residential and commercial applications. The heat exchangers are designed to minimize your carbon footprint, making them an ideal choice for your net zero journey.

Alfa Laval expertise at first hand: Our speakers at the Chillventa forums
Tuesday, 8 October, 11:20 - 11:40, Hall 7A / 7A-638
Presentation in English: "Sustainable heat exchanger technology for medium/large heat pumps using natural refrigerants"
In this presentation, our expert for cooling systems and gasketed plate heat exchangers, Tommy Ängback, will talk about the development of new heat exchangers. Tommy will describe how it is possible to bring efficient and sustainable heat pump solutions to the market without fossil fuels and with natural refrigerants. You will also learn about the newly developed technology of our plate heat exchangers, designed for a new generation of large heat pumps. This technology enables reliable operation, maximum energy efficiency, short amortisation times and minimal global warming potential.
Tuesday, 8 October, 13:30-13:40, Hall 4A / 4A-419
Presentation in English: "An evolving heat exchanger portfolio for R290"
Our Application & Product Specialist Matteo Todescato will present the new Alfa Laval SE product series. The brazed plate heat exchangers work with the natural refrigerant propane and are designed for use as evaporators or condensers. Until now, propane has mainly been used in heat pumps for private households. It has allowed us to gather extensive knowledge of performance behaviour, which has been directly incorporated into the development of the new SE series. This represents a significant milestone in meeting the growing demand for commercial heat pumps and chillers.
Wednesday, 9 October, 11:20-11:40, Hall 7A
"Energy efficiency at the highest level: Heat pump cascade revolutionizes heating and cooling processes in milk processing"
The processing of milk and whey requires a constant supply of heating and cooling energy. This practical example, presented by Georg Wörner, MidEurope Sales Manager for brazed heat exchangers, demonstrates an innovative solution developed by Alfa Laval in collaboration with Simaka Energie- und Umwelttechnik. The installation of three heat pump cascades enabled this leading dairy processing company to reduce its previous energy consumption in three application areas by a total of approximately 68%.
Wednesday, 9 October, 13:20-13:40, Hall 7A
Presentation in English: "Extreme low charge refrigeration systems with ammonia R-717"
R-717 is one of the most efficient natural refrigerants on the market and opens up a wide range of applications. However, it is toxic. Therefore, the development of R-717 refrigeration systems must consider safety throughout the entire life cycle. Christian Kempe, Product & Application Development Manager HVAC/Light Industry/Refrigeration at Alfa Laval, will present various solutions in this presentation. These include working with the lowest possible filling quantity.
Thursday, 10 October, 13:40-14:00, Hall 7A / 7A-638
Presentation in English: "Large Industrial Heat Pump installations with natural refrigerants benefitting semi-welded plate heat exchangers"
One of our prime examples of heat recovery is a data centre whose construction began in Denmark in 2017. The facility contains highly efficient hardware that is cooled by indirect evaporative cooling with outside air. It is powered by clean and renewable wind energy. Tommy Ängback, Alfa Laval expert for cooling systems and gasketed plate heat exchangers, will present this and other exciting application examples for heat recovery in this presentation.
