Self-cleaning

The single-channel construction eliminates bypassing and reduces fouling. The turbulence of the fluid in the channel constantly flushes away any scaling or deposits as soon as they form. If fouling occurs, thus diminishing the cross section of the channel, the velocity increases and scrubs away deposits at the eaxct zone affected. 

 Small space requirement

The wrapped cylindrical arrangement of a minimiezed heat transfer surface results in an extremely compact unit. This compact design ensures lower installation costs.

Easy access and maintenance

The compact design provides easy access on the process side. High turbulence ensures a low-risk of fouling on the cooling side. Id cleaning is needed, chemical cleaning on the cooling side is very efficient because of the single channel construction.

How it works

ALSHE

A spiral heat exchanger is a circular heat exchanger with two concentric spiral channels, one for each fluid. These curving channels provide extremely efficient heat transfer and good flow conditions for a wide variety of fluids.

The standard design consists of a spiral wound from two sheets of metal to form two concentric spiral flow passages. The different media flow counter-currently in these channels, from the centre to the periphery and vice versa. The process channel is open on one side and closed on the other, whereas the water channel is closed on both sides. Each channel has one connection in the centre and one on the periphery.

The design is particularly suitable for use with fluids that tend to cause fouling, such as the sludge from wastewater treatment of all kinds. The spiral flow and continuously curving passages create turbulence in the flow, which results in a constant scouring action. In addition to this turbulence providing efficient heat transfer, it results in a self-cleaning effect that flushes away any accumulations of deposits as they form. This helps prevent fouling and ensures only a minimum of downtime for maintenance.
