Bioethanol production

Bioethanol is produced by fermenting biological feedstock materials such as sugarcane or starch crops. Ethanol from sugarcane is most common in tropical areas, while corn dominates elsewhere. Lately, some ethanol production plants have also started using biomass i.e. cellulosic fibres from crop residues, wood residues, dedicated energy crops, and industrial and other waste products. When used as a renewable pure fuel or additive in gasoline, ethanol increases octane and reduces emissions.

Energy efficiency

In recent years, the average energy balance in bioethanol plants has significantly improved. However, when meeting ethanol producers today, it becomes clear that there is untapped potential for further energy savings.

Alfa Laval’s products are designed to improve your bioethanol plant’s energy balance, while also delivering smooth operation and ensuring maximum uptime:

  • Our heat exchangers provide maximum heat recovery from any process stream.
  • Thanks to their superior separation efficiency, our decanters eliminate the degradation of solids feed in ethanol process. They give you the lowest energy consumption with clearest centrate — thereby improving your bottom line, increasing production uptime, and reducing your carbon footprint.

Your Alfa Laval service provider is always on hand to help you maximize energy recovery and overall equipment performance. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with our local teams for support.
