Buyer Planner

This position is responsible for purchases and expedited purchases to assure we have component availability to meet production schedules. This person also develops the function to meet future needs of efficient processes and shorter lead time.

  • Monitors daily purchasing reports to determine what parts need to be expedited or purchased
  • Evaluates quotes for best quality, price and return date
  • Creates PO’s and all other call off activities to support materials group
  • Expedites parts if needed by contacting supplier to place additional orders or change delivery dates
  • Involvement in supplier development projects including influencing suppliers to improve lead times and measure supplier statistics
  • Coordinates closely with purchasing agent and manager regarding part availability and supplier performance
  • Purchases bill of material items with various lead times to support the production plan (which maximizes  manufacturing efficiencies in line with supply service objectives)
  • Schedules and coordinates the planning/execution of subcontract jobs with external suppliers
  • Applies continuous improvement techniques/methods to internal processes and systems to increase efficiency, customer service and to reduce costs
  • Manages inventories and stock replenishment to achieve customer service and inventory objectives
  • Proactively communicates and elevates potential interruption of supplies
  • Communicates with production managers to assure common understanding of order status
  • Creates successful supplier relationships
  • Ensures material availability through accurate inventory monitoring by investigating inventory discrepancies (overages/shortages) and making correction recommendations
  • Recommends process/procedure improvement to improve department KPIs
  • Leads and participates in department improvement projects
  • Leads and supports change management activities
  • Creates successful supplier relationships
  • Bachelor’s Degree or work equivalent
  • Min 5 years' experience in buying/production planning in a manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated interest and capability in Supply Planning / Purchasing
  • Solid end to end supply chain understanding
  • Superior analytical and mathematical/numeracy skills
  • High technical aptitude is preferred
  • Strong influencing and problem solving skills
  • Strong demonstrated critical thinking and logic skills
  • Open minded and creative in solution development
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Self-confidence and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to demonstrate alignment with APIC’s Buyer Planner competency model
  • Knowledge of ERP system
  • Intermediate/Advance skill level in Microsoft Excel
  • Strong negotiating skills
  • Understanding of machine capacity and set ups
  • APICS (CPIM/CIRM) or ISM (CPM) certification preferred
  • Strong skills in:
    • Time management
    • Attention to details
    • Written & verbal communications
    • Bilingual a plus
